What are the procedure to fill Sand in the Building Back Fill or Basement Work?

SAND FILLING AND COMPACTION FOR THE BUILDING

Approved material shall be used for back filling. Soil with liquid limit exceeding 65% and plasticity index exceeding 35% cannot be used. High clay soil is not preferred for back filling.Imported fill shall be selected - graded hard granular fill with 100% free stones larger than 100mm, up to 50% passing 5mm mesh and not more than 20% passing a 75 micron sieve.Compaction is done in layers of 150mm. Choose the compaction equipment based on the nature of soil. Soil with organic material, construction debris, susceptible for spontaneous combustion, soft clay, and moisture content greater than optimum value to be avoided as back fill material. Insitu field densities of compacted material should be 95% of maximum dry density or as specified by the consultant. Test should be conducted 10m centre-to-centre and before the anti-termite treatment is done. Sand replacement method can be used to ascertain insitu field density. If removal and replacement of the weak strata with strong compact material is necessary, check the compatibility

of the proposed fill material with the existing chemical ground conditions. The checks that need to be made before work starts include the stability and levels of the original ground or foundations at the base or top of embankments, selection of suitable fill material and the stability and profiles of side slopes. The stability of slopes to cuttings and embankments (in all weather conditions) is critical to safety on site.  If in doubt, the Project-in-charge must be consulted and the decisions taken to be recorded. Know your soil conditions before starting any large-scale earth moving operations.Unit of measurement of back fill material should be clear before the work starts. For volumetric calculations cater for 30% quantity more of loose back fill to compacted volume.

In Civil Engineering Construction field, Safety is first...then work....

Dear Friends,

Land Valuer in Tamilnadu's Observation...

In Construction field, we observed main point is Safety...

Safety is first...then work....

Following things we have to follow in safety

Personal protective equipment (PPE) includes articles such as eye, face, head and extremity protection; protective clothing; respiratory devices; protective shields; and barriers for mechanical, chemical, or other workplace environmental hazards.

Head protection. Protective helmets (hard hats) must be worn by employees who work in areas where there is a possibility of head injury from impact, falling or flying objects, or electricity.

Hearing protection. Hearing protection must be worn when noise levels cannot be reduced by engineering or other means.

Eye and face protection. Eye and face protection must be used to protect against physical, or chemical agents. Protection must be reasonably comfortable, fit snugly, and not unduly interfere with employee movement. Employees whose vision requires the use of spectacles, shall be protected by goggles

Use eye goggles/ protective cover on face while hacking, welding, glass cutting, chipping or drilling operations

Respiratory protection. Construction sites must have a written plan for procedures to select and use respirators. Respirators must be regularly cleaned and disinfected, stored properly, and inspected. Users must be properly trained in selection, use, and maintenance of respirators.

Safety belts and lifelines. If safety belts, lifelines, and lanyards have been used for in-service loading, they must immediately be removed for service in employee safeguarding. Ensure that these personnel at all times are secured to the building.
Safety nets. Safety nets must be provided if workplaces are higher than 25 feet above the surface and ladders, scaffolds or other safety equipment is impractical.

Workers over or near water. Life jackets or buoyant work vests must be provided to employees where the danger of drowning exists. These must be inspected for defects before and after each use.

Thank You
